**Video of the incident has been provided below, please use extreme caution before viewing!** Richard Rojas (26) was charged yesterday on 1 count of murder, 20 counts of attempted murder, and aggravated vehicular homicide after he purposefully drove his car into a crowd of people in Times Square. According to police, @ 11:55am, Rojas was driving south on 7th Ave when he slowed down, allowed traffic to pass, made a U-turn @ 42nd Street; sped up, and started to hit pedestrians, after he crashed, he exited the car, civilians and police detained him as he tried to flee the scene. According to prosecutors, Rojas said after the incident, "I wanted to kill them" and that police should have shot him. He also admitted the following to authorities, "I smoked marijuana. I laced the marijuana with PCP." 18 year old Alyssa Elsman, who was in New York on vacation was killed in the crash and her 13 year old sister was severely injured. Her sister is still in the hospital with a collapsed lung and broken pelvis. 3 other people are still in the hospital with critical injuries from the crash. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 24th. Brief thoughts: Rojas was a Navy veteran and I believe that I read or heard somewhere that he suffered from PTSD due to his time in the Navy. Now in no way shape, form, or fashion am I excusing what he did cause what he did was disgusting, deplorable, and unnecessary, however if he did or does have PTSD and it was known to those around him, somebody should've tried to get him some help. Clearly he was suffering from some sort of mental illness cause a sane person doesn't just plow into a crowd of people cause they don't have anything better to do! We may never know why he did what he did, but clearly he needs some sort of mental health treatment.
