UPDATE #1
ORIGINAL POST Friday, which also marks the 1st day of Ramadan, 2 men were killed in Portland, Oregon after defending 2 women who were being verbally attacked with racial slurs and hate speech. The minute that Jeremy Joseph Christian spotted the young women on the light rail train, he began bombarding them with his spiel of "Muslims should die and they've been killing Christians for years.". 1 of the young women was African American and the other was her friend who was also wearing a hijab. Ricky John Best (53) and Taliesin Myrddin Namkai Meche (23) intervened to get Jeremy Joseph Christian to leave the women alone, but they were stabbed to death by Christian. Best succumbed to his injuries @ the scene and Meche succumbed to his injuries @ a nearby hospital. Micah David-Cole Fletcher (21) was also stabbed during the attack, he survived his injuries, and was taken to a Portland hospital in serious condition. Christian was arrested a little while after the attack and he is now being held @ the Multnomah County Jail on charges of aggravated murder, attempted murder, intimidation, and being a felon in possession of a weapon. He will make his 1st court appearance on Tuesday. Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler had this to say about the men who died in the attack, "These 2 men died heroes as a result of a horrific act of racist violence. Their actions were brave and selfless and should serve as an example, an inspiration to us all. They are heroes." Brief thought: I understand there's a lot of negative bullshit going on in the world, but there's no reason to bombard people with your negativity. If that's how you, keep it to yourself, go home and be the miserable vile person that you are alone. There's no reason for any of that! These women weren't doing anything to you and you may come across dozens of Muslims everyday and you may not even know it, and they're not worried about you, they're worried about continuing with their daily lives. I say this all the time, there are bad apples in every single nationality and ethnicity, but doesn't make everybody bad, if that was the case, we would all just walk around hating eachother based on the actions of a few people. My hope is that this situation doesn't deter people from standing up and helping the next person when they're being verbally or physically attacked for any and all reasons.

Donald Trump has people out here feeling extra comfortable letting their racist show!
Last night, Charlottesville, Virginia looked like a scene out of the 1950s! A group of white nationalists carried torches to protest plans to remove the statue of General Robert E. Lee in Lee Park, where the protest took place. Fun fact: A court order halted the removal of the statue for 6 months. Richard Spencer, who's becoming a well known white nationalist, joined the protesters who chanted slogans such as, "we will not be replaced" and "Russia is our friend" @ the site of the statue. The mayor of Charlottesville, Mike Signer, did an interview with ABC News today and said this, "I think it's horrific. We're a city that proudly values our diversity." He also shed light on an altercation that took place between protesters and counter-protesters. Officers were called to the park and discovered 100 to 150 people in the park, as they got closer, they came across the group arguing with a man who was yelling for these racist folks, "to leave my town." Officers ordered everyone to clear the park and backup was called. When backup arrived, the protesters started to leave. No injuries, assaults, or damages were reported, and no other incidents came up after the additional officers arrived. Mayor Signer said that he's expecting police to perform "due diligence" in determining whether a federal hate crime took place during the confrontation because of how racially charged everything was. Brief thoughts: It's a statue, not the man himself! Just like with the statues in New Orleans, put them in a museum and if they would like to visit them, they can for an entrance fee. I'm all for standing up for what you believe in whether it's right or wrong, but these bold racists gotta be careful because 1 day they're going to be feeling bold and proud and roll up on the wrong person who's not gonna be as civil and patient as the man they encountered last night! UPDATE
Disclaimer: as you all know, my blog is very pro-black and pro-people of color, but I'm also pro-human and on this blog nobody is immune from me calling them out for their bad behavior or for harming another human being.
Kori Ali Muhammad (39), randomly chose 3 men going about their business, and gunned them down simply because they were white. The only thing connecting these 3 men together was the fact that they were all on the same block, but as far as authorities can tell they didn't know each other. Muhammad told authorities that he wanted to kill as many white people as he could before he was captured. He also admitted to the crimes after he was captured, "I did it. I shot them." Muhammad is currently in custody and is expected to be charged with 4 counts of murder, 1 count for each of the men that lost their lives yesterday and another count for a 25 year old security guard that worked @ Motel 6 that he shot and killed last week. He will also face 2 additional charges of assault with a deadly weapon. During his arrest, he made the statement, "Allahu Akbar," but the rampage isn't believed to be connected to terrorism. Authorities are still searching for the weapon that was used, but it's believed that the gun might've been picked up by another person who saw it (stupid). The Victims (when their names and photos become available, I'll update the post):
I just don't understand why this was necessary. I can understand with the racial tension in this country, some things can set you off and piss you off, I know cause I've witnessed many things that have happened over the past couple of years that have just infuriated me, but that doesn't make me want to go out and kill anybody! When white people kill people of color and people of color kill white people, what's being solved? You're not helping! You're making racial situations in this country worse and giving the other side reason to want to retaliate! When is it just going to stop and when are people just going to realize that we're all humans, we're all the same color on the inside, we bleed the same color blood, when is it going to stop? I just don't understand what the point is, but yet again when the day comes that I can understand why somebody does something like this, I become 1 of them, I become part of the problem. This is just deplorable, unnecessary, disgusting, and our new reality.
A 17 year old Iranian-Kurdish asylum seeker was attacked in the London. Reker Ahmed was chased from a bus stop in the Croydon area before he was thrown to the ground and repeatedly punched and kicked, he was jumped by a group of 20 to 30 people, and he suffered from serious head injuries, reportedly he is still in the hospital. Scotland Yard has confirmed that 12 people ranging in age from 13 to 24 have been charged with "violent disorder" and a 17 year old has been charged with "violent disorder and racially aggravated grievous bodily harm." My thoughts: what was the point behind all this? What did these assholes get from this? Why are they so threatened by this young man who fled a country to live a better life? Why do people have such a problem with refugees? Maybe it's the free loving hippie in me that believes that all people should be accepted and loved no matter where they came from and how they ended up where they did. I just don't understand, but I guess the minute I understand why they did this, I become just as bad as them, so I'm content with being confused on this. #refugeelivesmatter A terror attack occurred in Sweden today, here's what we know:
As always if new details are released, this post will be updated. Thoughts and prayers are with those who were affected by today's terror attack. UPDATES
It seems like everyday that we turn on the news, there are reports of hate crimes all over the place. In an effort to combat these increases, many states are creating new laws and consequences in the hopes of preventing future instances.
A few statistics before we get started courtesy of the latest FBI Crime Statistics (2015 results)
The states looking to make changes:
I just don't understand.
A 19 year old Jewish teen was arrested in Israel on Thursday, suspected of making a series of bomb threats to Jewish Centers around the world. The unidentified teen, who holds dual citizenship in America and Israel, was arrested after months worth of undercover collaborative investigations between Israel and the FBI. According to authorities the teen used "advanced camouflage technology" to cover his tracks (think technology to change his voice) and throw officials off. Authorities believe the threats were performed overseas and as of yet there's no motive for his actions. A little background information: bomb threats against Jewish Centers have been made in New Zealand, the US, and Australia. In the US alone, there have been 100 threats across 33 states. Little boy, you need to get you some business because you have entirely too much time on your hands. What in the hell are you doing calling around to different centers around the world and scaring people to death? The thing that got me, was that HE'S JEWISH! Why in the hell are you targeting your own people for? So now your stupid behind has thrown away your life because you're going to jail, hopefully for a really long time, and for what? Was it worth it? That's the 1 thing I always wanna know when these types of things happen, was it worth it to the people that've done these things. UPDATE--I know it's been awhile, but a couple things have come up since I last did this post
Straying away from politics for a moment, there's information from the Charleston church shooting that I wanted to share with yall.
Joey Meek, who was a friend of the shooter, Dylan Roof was just sentenced to 27 months in prison for not reporting a crime and lying to the FBI. Meek said that Roof told him about the plans to shoot and kill the members of Emanuel AME church during a night of drinking, marijuana and cocaine use, and video games. This conversation happened a week prior to the killings. Meek also stopped a friend of theirs from calling the police after hearing about the shooting to confirm Roof as the shooter. The thing that irritated me the most about this story, Meek cried @ his sentencing. The hell you crying for? You're not crying cause these people were murdered, you're crying because you're going to jail! This guy said during his sentencing, "I'm really really sorry. A lot of beautiful lives were taken." No, you're not sorry, if you were really sorry, you would've said something to prevent it from even happening! If you had just opened your mouth because allegedly you were the only person that knew, more than likely this wouldn't have happened. Don't get me wrong, I'm not placing all blame on this Joey character, Roof is 100% to blame, no way around it, however if Meek had tipped somebody off, maybe authorities could've looked into Roof, and prevented these lives from being taken. And no matter how many handwritten notes you write to the families of the victims, it doesn't change the fact that you sat around getting drunk and high instead of saying something. Yeah, he's written the families notes! Boy, bye! Save those tears for when you get to prison cause once those inmates figure out why you're there, I'm sure you're gonna be needing those tears a lot more. Nobody should be shocked with the information listed in this post and if you are, more than likely you're part of the problem, and you should start doing some self reflecting.
Hate crimes rose 20% in 9 metropolitan areas in 2016. The researched areas include: New York; D.C.; Chicago; Philadelphia; Montgomery County, Maryland; Columbus, Ohio; Seattle; Long Beach, California; and Cincinnati. Here are the statistics:
Researchers believe the increase stems in large part from the election. Bias crimes increased in cities around the country after the election and the trend has continued into this year. Side note: uh duh, but we'll get into that later. Bias crimes, include crimes against Muslims, the Jewish, the LGBTQ community, etc. Again, nobody should be shocked by these findings. When the electoral college (the people elected somebody else, always remember that) elected the Supreme Hater in Chief after running a campaign based purely on hate and prejudices, what did people really expect to happen? He's sitting in the most sacred house in the country after all the disgusting and vile things he said, so why wouldn't that make the next racist feel comfortable coming out their mouth with some vile ish? And if they're too coward to stand in their truth and say what they really think, why would they think twice about calling in a bomb threat to a Jewish Center? Why would they think twice about desecrating a synagogue? He got away with it, so of course these people are going to think they can do the same. Here's what I can't stand, if you're gonna have the audacity to try and spread hate, don't disrespect people's property, show yourself and say what you've gotta say if it means that much to you. Don't be a punk and hide behind some graffiti, stand in your truth, and show yourself.
Police in South Carolina are looking for some punk who is responsible for racist and homophobic graffiti @ 3 buildings. Employees found the graffiti when they arrived to work in the morning. One of the buildings that was tagged is a library that was named after Cynthia Hurd, 1 of the 9 parishioners shot and killed by Dylan Roof @ Emanuel AME Church. Hurd was the manager of the library before her death and it named for her after her death. The messages that were tagged on the building weren't included in the article, but 1 of the statements targeted black women specifically. I don't understand the point of vandalizing property, does it make you feel better? Do you feel like you got something off your chest? In my opinion, that's some coward ish, you have to deface somebody else's property, but I bet you wouldn't say whatever your tag said to the face of a black woman cause you already know what would happen cause black women take no bs. Dylan Roof was sentenced to death for the murders he committed. |
