12/7/2017 Update #2

Tuesday 12/5/2017
ORIGINAL POST Hopefully, this is a sign of progress that can be made when these unfortunate situations happen. **The video of the incident will be posted below, WARNING it is very graphic, and for those wondering why I put the videos up, it's because I don't want people to ever forget about the violent way these folks died, I don't want people to ever forget about what these officers have done, I want people to be able to formulate their own opinions, but I also don't want people to deny what happened, and that's why I put it directly in your face.** Today, the officer who shot Walter Scott 5 times in the back, plead guilty to a federal civil rights offense. Michael Slager's guilty plea will end the federal case he was facing and do away with the state charges that were still pending after a mistrial was declared last year. For those that don't remember what happened, here's a brief recap of what took place:
Slager was fired after the shooting and then was charged with murder to which he plead not guilty. A mistrial was declared in December 2016 and another trial was to take place sometime this year, the federal trial was supposed to happen later this month. The Justice Department said in a statement that was released today that Slager "willfully used deadly force on Walter Scott even though it was objectively unreasonable under the circumstances." The Scott family is satisfied with the results of the day with his brother Anthony Scott saying, "We asked for justice, we received justice, we got it done. Today shows that unjust cops will not be tolerated anymore. Today he told the truth. He said he did it. The healing starts today." Slager has yet to be sentenced, which is @ the discretion of the judge. He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison and a $250,000 fine. Brief thoughts: It would be nice if all outcomes wound up like this. Personal opinion, I actually think this is better than a trial because of course as we've seen numerous times before and even with this case, juries don't always do the right thing. Hopefully, the judge will give him the max punishment of life in prison because you took Walter's life, so you're life and freedom should be taken away. The bad thing is, in order to get here, the Justice Department has to bring forth the charges, which Jeff Sessions said the department was committed to doing (I just do not believe him nor do I trust him), then the officer has to enter their plea, and then take it from there, so just like with a trial by jury, it's a process and 1 wrong move in the process could hamper justice. I'm thrilled that Slager admitted his wrongdoing, if only more officers in these situations could do the same. I hope the judge doesn't take it easy on him just because he plead guilty. And I'm beyond thrilled that the Scott family believes they can now start the healing process 2 years later. #sayhisname #blacklivesmatter
