I held off on doing this story because @ the time that everything came out, I didn't have a clear idea of how I wanted to do this blog and I didn't have a clear idea of the stories I wanted to do on this blog, I'm very clear now, and now we're going to dig into this story.
NCIS or Naval Criminal Investigative Service (yes it's a real thing and not just a tv show) have said that they believe 27 individuals are involved in criminal activity for posting non-consensual nude photos of female marines online. 15 of the 27 are active duty, 14 in the Marines and 1 in the Navy. 2 of the Marines have been given non-judicial punishment for making inappropriate comments on Facebook. There are believed to be 150 different websites containing these photos. Note: I will not be posting the sites where the photos are located on this blog because I think this whole thing is disgusting, it's a definite violation of these women's privacy, and I won't contribute to it. Facial recognition software was used to identity the women and 25 victims have submitted photos to see if they matched the ones on the sites. Pause: the whole situation is sick and disturbing, but I think 1 of the most disturbing things to me is that many of the images were cropped from the neck down. So, you bunch of sick ass perverts put these women's head and faces on these bodies, you have people looking @ them thinking they know what they look like under their clothes and it's not even them. Another thing that disturbs me is that officials and investigators are having hard time removing the images from these sites because unfortunately in the day and age we currently live in, anybody can copy images and upload them anywhere...I mean there's isn't a show called Catfish for no reason. In response to the scandal, to prevent this from happening again, social media training is being considered, also commanders have received handbooks with updates to social media use guidelines and an outline of various punishments available. My thoughts: I think this is beyond disgusting, I think the fact that the photos are so hard to remove is like pouring salt in the wound, and I don't know or understand what the assholes behind this were thinking.
