Just something quick I wanted to share.
Governor Bruce Rauner of Illinois, has signed a new law that will make President Obama's birthday an unofficial state holiday. Starting next year, August 4th will be a day of honor to President Obama. The bill swept through the Democrat majority legislature. The day of honor is a way to recognize his efforts to protect Americans' rights and build "bridge across communities" according to the law. The day wasn't made an official state holiday due to the state's current financial troubles and concerns about giving state employees another paid day off. Brief thought: In my personal opinion, his birthday needs to be a national holiday for the fact that he was the 1st African American president and for all the good that he did in this country regardless of if people want to acknowledge it or not. Also, I'm not mad @ the state for making the date a day of honor instead of an official state holiday, I'm sure President Obama would prefer the state figure out their financial situation instead of giving employees a paid day off with money the state doesn't have. Hopefully, once they get things straight in the state, they can amend the law and make it an official state holiday. Lastly, there has to be a way we can sneak him back into the White House to fix the past 6 months!
