Another post I had in my folder of things I wanted to cover that I'm finally getting to.
Anquan Boldin, who had recently signed a 1 year deal with the Buffalo Bills, unexpectedly announced that he would be quitting football after playing for 14 seasons, in order to focus his attention on speaking out on issues affecting the country, primarily inequality within the black community. The decision to back away from the sport and focus on the greater issues @ hand weighed on him for awhile, but it was the events of Charlottesville that confirmed what he needed to do. "I think anybody with any sense can see how divided we are as a country, and Charlottesville only magnified what we were already seeing. That's not the America that I want to live in. And I think the only way that this America changes is that we as a people stand up and change it." "There's not enough money in this world for me to continue to allow the things that are going on to continue to spread. I will not feel safe leaving this Earth and having my kids have to live in the America that we have today," he continued explaining his decision to walk about from his new $1.75 million dollar contract. He also had this to say to the powers that be in the NFL who have proved where they stand on the issues by their lack of action, "You have your players crying out for help. That's the reason why guys are taking knees during the anthem. Just because we're professional athletes doesn't mean we're exempt from the things that go on in society. If I'm an owner and I see one of my family members...players...hurting, I'd do whatever I can to make sure that my family is ok. I think it's absurd to tell a person to stick to playing football when the issues that he's talking about are affecting him." Now, for those who aren't familiar with the good things that this man is doing, here's just a taste of how he's helping the community.
Brief thought: Just like with Kaepernick, I wholeheartedly believe that this man is doing God's work and that'll take him further any game of football ever could. I commend and salute him for standing up for what he believes in and hopefully more will follow suit and become more vocal in speaking up for the issues that affect us all.

Here's a recap of the Boston Free Speech Rally that took place today:
Just a little something I wanted to share.
I'll be the 1st to admit, I'm clueless when it comes to basketball and I don't much when it comes to the man we're about to talk about. The only thing I really know about him is that he made a speak to his mother awhile back where he called her the real MVP and I cried like a baby. Anybody who knows me, know I'll watch football over basketball any day of the week, however I may now have a reason to watch. Golden State Warriors player and NBA MVP Kevin Durant made it clear on Thursday that if the Golden State Warriors are invited to the White House to celebrate winning the 2017 NBA Finals he won't be in attendance. "Nah, I won't do that. I don't respect who's in officer right now. I don't agree I don't agree with what he agrees with, so my voice is going to be heard by not doing that. That's just me personally...I definitely want to be the voice of where I come from and people who have come from my neighborhood and deal with oppression."--Durant in an interview with ESPN He also had the following to say about the country seemingly taking steps backwards, "I feel ever since Trump got into office, or since he ran for the presidency, our country has been so divided, and it's not a coincidence. When Obama was in office, things were looking up. We had so much hope in our communities where I come from because we had a black president, and that was a first. So to see that and to be where we are now, it just felt like we took a turn for the worse." Most importantly to me, he had sent out this call to action, "For us to move forward, we need more athletes and people of power and influence to come out and speak." Brief thought: He said everything that really needs to be said and he's spot on with how many in not only the African American community feel, but also in other minority communities feel about having Trump occupy the White House. I fully support his decision to not attend, more athletes regardless of color should follow his example to not attend if they are invited. And absolutely those who have "influence" over others i.e. younger generations, who may not fully understand what's going, need to do their part, speak out, and educate. Kevin Durant just gained a new fan. Anybody who knows me, know that this man is my FAVORITE football player. I believe I've made it clear on here as well. I respect what he can do on the field and I also respect the things he does off the field. He got a lot of attention last night and here's why for those that don't know.
Last night, Marshawn and the Oakland Raiders played their 1st preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals. No, he didn't play, but the above picture of him sitting during the National Anthem helped him gain national and international attention. After the game, Raiders' coach Jack Del Rio spoke with Marshawn, and this is what Del Rio told reporters:
Regardless of if Marshawn, who's been a vocal supporter of Colin Kaepernick, sat with the intention of continuing what Kaepernick isn't able to do on the field or if he was just being himself as he stated, I'm more proud than ever to be a fan of Beast Mode and I believe that more players should follow their footsteps and be more vocal in protesting the injustices that plague minorities. ORIGINAL POST Another quick post I wanted to share. There will be a rally for Colin Kaepernick on August 23rd outside the NFL's headquarters in NYC. The rally, which is being organized by various civil rights groups, is being held to protest the fact the fact that Kaepernick hasn't been picked up by another team since parting ways with the San Francisco 49ers, all because he stood up for the injustices minorities are faced with everyday. There's also been calls for a boycott of the NFL until Kaepernick is picked up by another team. Brief thought: As stated previously and I will continue to state it, I support Kaepernick's actions, minus him not voting. I support the stance he took to bring attention to what's going on in this country that people try to ignore. I think it's bullshit that he hasn't been picked up by a team, yet you can beat your significant other, violate the league's drug policy, etc. and still have a job. And everybody in the NFL as far as owners and coaches want to beat around the bush and say his protest doesn't have anything to do with him not being picked up. Keep it real and admit that you don't wanna sign this man who hasn't done a single thing wrong because you're afraid of the backlash you might receive. JUST SAY IT! Now, my favorite player, Marshawn Lynch came out of retirement to play with the Oakland Raiders, soooo this boycott is gonna be a little hard for me to participate in. I didn't watch any games last year because Lynch wasn't playing, however I have a reason to watch again, so I'll support by not watching any of the other team games. Lastly, Kaepernick may never play another game of football and that's perfectly ok because I wholly believe that he's doing God's work by donating to various charities, bringing attention to social issues, etc. God's work will last you a lifetime while playing football is temporary. Here is what yall should know about the KKK rally that took place in Charlottesville, VA:
Brief thought: As yall know I'm proud to be from Virginia and I'm proud that about 1000 people all gathered together on a Saturday when they could've been doing anything and everything else to confront these assholes and let them know we're not having that bs in this state! Take that crap back to North Carolina! **No offense to anybody reading this from North Carolina!** Also, 1 of the Klansmen said that they were protesting because those that support the statue coming down are trying to "erase" their history. If you don't shut your ignorant behind up! Here's the thing about history, just because we support the tearing down of statues that are constant reminders of where this country came from, it doesn't mean we're trying to erase history because guess what! THAT'S NOT POSSIBLE! You can't erase things that have already happened, it's in all the history books, it's online, it's everywhere! Nobody's is erasing your precious racist history, we just don't want to see it everyday! Here's another post specifically for my mother because as previously stated NOBODY on the face of this planet wants this man impeached and thrown under the jail more than my mother!
Sidenote: Mom, you and I are gonna go to a rally together, not just so you can express you hate of Trump with other people, but also because I think it would be funny to watch you in action around other people that you can be free and comfortable with. So, without further ado, this 1 is for you mom! Here's a recap of the Impeach Trump rallies:
Brief thought: We've been through some crazy ish in this country, but Trump is just getting more and more out of hand as the days go by. We're only on day 164 and I feel like we're been dealing with him already for 4 years. I mean seriously, how much more can we as the people take? What is it going to take for the folks in Washington to wake the hell up and get this man out of office??!! As yall know, I've been trying to stray away from posting about things that I deem as distractions from the greater picture of what's going on in this country. After thinking long and hard (I'm exaggerating), I decided to do this post for the mere fact that I respect any and everybody that has the balls and the audacity to stand up to Trump and his henchmen! Any and everybody that has the "courage" to do so deserves a space on my blog! For those that haven't seen what transpired or haven't heard, here's a recap of what happened during Tuesday's daily lie presentation aka press briefing (I'VE ALSO INCLUDED VIDEO BELOW):
Karem went on MSNBC's 'Morning Joe' where he had this to say about the experience he had the day before:
Brief thought: I've said this time and time again and will continue to say it. Donald Trump and company, it's not fake news just because it doesn't paint you in a positive light! The press' job is to tell the American people the truth since you and your team are incapable of doing so! **IMPORTANT NOTE: I slowed down the speed of the slideshow, to allow more time to read the letters, also if you click on the slideshow, it has the option to pause it**
Guess who's not surprised by the information I'm about to share with yall...raises hand...me! Trump's token African American person, Omarosa Manigault (who has no idea what's going on in the black community and DOES NOT speak on behalf of the black community), extended an invitation for a follow up meeting with the Congressional Black Caucus, to which the Caucus said no thanks. The Caucus turned down the invitation due to believing their concerns fell on "deaf ears." The group met with Trump and henchmen back in March and I do believe I said on this blog that the meeting would change anything because Trump doesn't care about anybody, but himself, and he could especially give a flying crap about minorities! But kudos to them for trying! The Caucus expressed their concerns via 8 letters and according to Cedric Richmond, the creation of TrumpCare and Jeff Sessions' handling of the Justice Department was the straw that broke the camel's back. "The CBC, and the million of people we represent, have a lot to lose under your administration. I fail to see how a social gathering would benefit the policies we advocate for." **Can I just say I laughed so hard @ him calling a meeting with Trump a "social gathering!" That's how much people don't respect Trump and the fact that he's "president." Omarosa had this to say about the invitation being declined, "It's pretty disappointing that Cedric Richmond has decided to go back on his commitment to meet with us" and has "vowed" to set up meetings for individual members to meet with Trump. Ma'am what's disappointing is that you've sold your soul in order to worth for this disrespectful and racist prick. Richmond didn't go back on his commitment, your boss did when he lied and said that our (the black community's) concerns were his concerns. Don't you dare shift the blame to this man who did his part by going to Trump in the 1st place when he probably knew nothing was going to change from the get go. I'm well aware you, Omarosa, and the rest of Trump's cabinet of ass kisser can never admit when Trump is wrong, so it's not surprising that you would blame Richmond instead. Hell, if I was Richmond, I wouldn't have a "social gathering" (yes, I laughed again when I typed that!) with Trump either, I have better things to do with my time! **Any and all impeachment posts that I have on here are done for my mother because she CAN NOT wait until the day that Trump is handed his walking papers. Here ya go mom!**
Just a quick little something I wanted to pass along. Representative Al Green (D-TX) announced that he'll being drafting articles of impeachment against Trump. Green, along with others believe it's a time to talk impeachment because Trump firing former FBI Director James Comey was blatant obstruction of justice. "The facts are simple and indisputable. The president fired the FBI director because the director was investigating the president's campaign connections to Russian interference in the presidential election. I have major respect for this man because despite receiving vile threats against his life, he's sticking to what he believes in, and he's moving forward with trying to get Trump out of the White House. **Don't get too excited yet yall, this is a process, and a lengthy process @ that.** |
