Anthony Weiner, former New York congressman, turned himself into the FBI yesterday and plead guilty in federal court to 1 count of transferring obscene material to a 15 year old high school student in North Carolina.
Anthony agreed to serve 21 to 27 months in prison, but will be released on $150,000 bond. His next appearance in court to be sentenced will be on September 8th. As part of his plea agreement, he agreed to surrender his iPhone and he must also register as a sex offender. In a statement, Anthony said that he had "compulsively sought attention from women, engaging many of them in sexual and non sexual conversations. He claims his behavior started when he entered Congress and it continued through the 1st 6 months in 2016. "These destructive impulses brought great devastation to my family and friends, and destroyed my life's dream of public service. I have a sickness, but I do not have an excuse." He apologized to the teenage girl that he was sexting and also admitted that he has entered intensive treatment for his "sickness." On the same day that he turned himself in, his estranged wife, former aide to Hillary Clinton, Huma Abedin filed for divorce to end their 7 years of marriage. The 2 have been separated since August 2016. Brief thoughts: I don't understand why he felt the need to seek attention from these girls and women. His soon to be ex wife is GORGEOUS, she's smart, and she's tough. Now, I know that looks aren't everything, but let's be honest, he hit the jackpot when he married her, so I just don't understand why the risk of eventually messing that up was worth it. Also, I watched his documentary on Showtime, I believe, and from all accounts of what I saw, he was likable in the beginning, he took his job seriously all throughout, even during and after the scandals. I thought he had potential to be a great member of Congress, so just like with Huma, why was engaging with these women worth messing up his career? It just all seems like a waste of potential talent. And now that you're a registered sex offender, there's no way in hell that he'll be able to be a public figure, so now what do you do with your life? I hope losing his career and his wife was worth it.
