Who knew basketball had a greater influence in changing laws than people's feelings??
North Carolina lawmakers voted on Thursday to scale back the state's bathroom bill. It was said that this move was made to end the endless backlash the state has received since the bill was passed. Aka, bring back all the money the state has lost. Remember folks, the almighty dollar is the driving force behind everything in gov't. The scale back removed the requirement that transgender people have to use the public bathroom that matches what's on their birth certificate. Also, state legislators, not local gov't and school officials, are in charge of public bathroom policies. Another major change, local gov'ts can't pass new nondiscrimination protections for gay and transgender people in workplace, hotels, restaurants until 2020. This is just fancy wording for it's now acceptable for these folks to be discriminated against and no protections will be put in place to protect them. So, you can now use the bathroom that matches who you truly believe you are, but if you're discrimated against in the process, you're SOL. I know you're wondering why I brought up basketball in the beginning. Well, the NCAA made the state aware that it wouldn't be in consideration for any championship events from 2018 to 2022 if the law wasn't changed or repealed. Take a minute to really think about that...these folk's feeling like they were discriminated against for just being who they are wasn't enough to change the law, but college basketball was. To put the state's financial loss from this bill into perspective, here are some Fun Facts:

I will never understand why people are so bothered by others and how they live their lives. Especially when it has no direct impact on their day to day lives.
A Wyoming judge was censured (express severe disapproval of someone or something, typically in a formal statement) for refusing to perform gay marriages due to religious objections. Pause...why the hell do you care so much? It's not like you're being forced to marry another woman. It was determined that Ruth Neely violated the state's code of judicial conduct and she was ordered to perform ceremonies for all or none @ all. The Judicial Ethics Commission recommended Neely be removed from her position after she told local reporters that she wouldn't be able to do gay marriage ceremonies. She was quoted as saying, "when law and religion conflict, choices have to be made." If that's the case ma'am, then you need to go ahead and step to the side and let somebody else come in and do your job. You are out of line ma'am. I'm all for people standing up for what they believe in, but I can't stand when people try to force their opinions on others. Times are ever changing in this country and you ma'am are gonna have to either get with it or find a line of business. You, Ruth Neely, I'm sure would feel some type of way if you were to get married and some asshole told you they wouldn't do it because you're white or you're a woman. You telling these couples you won't marry them just because they're gay or lesbian, is the same type of discrimination. You were born a woman and white, just like these people were born gay. Above all else, same sex marriage is legal in this country and it's your job to follow the law! These couples wanting to get married has no impact on how you live your life, so keep it moving and do your job! If you are of the belief that gay marriage is wrong, that's perfectly fine because everybody's entitled to their own opinion, then don't live your life that way! When all was said and done, the Wyoming State Supreme Court decided not to remove her based on her two decade long career and the respect she's gained during those 2 decades. |
